Spring Training for Your Home: 5 Maintenance Wins for RC Homeowners

Just like the Quakes had to prepare for their long season at Morongo Field, it’s time for us homeowners to put our houses through a little "Spring Training." Living at the base of the foothills is beautiful, but it means our homes take a beating from the Santa Ana winds and the looming summer heat. Before we hit those 90-degree days, here is my veteran roster of maintenance must-dos:
Service the A/C Early: Don't wait until July to find out your HVAC is on the IL (injured list). Get a professional tune-up now while the schedules are open.
The "Fire Safe" Perimeter: If you're in Alta Loma or Etiwanda, this is non-negotiable. Clear out dead brush and dried leaves from your gutters and property lines. Creating a defensible space is the best way to protect your investment.
Roof & Gutter Check: We’ve had some breezy months! Check for loose shingles or debris that might have hitched a ride onto your roof.
Irrigation Audit: Winter can be tough on sprinkler heads. Turn your system on manually to check for leaks or "geysers" before you start your spring planting.
The Dryer Vent: It sounds boring, but it’s a major fire safety win. Clean out that lint trap and the exterior vent to keep things running efficiently.
Home Base Tip: A well-maintained home doesn't just feel better—it appraises better. If you want a list of my favorite local contractors who actually show up on time, shoot me a DM!

Hey Inland Empire, I’m Candice Newman! I’ve had the incredible fortune of being born and raised in this amazing community, and I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else. I currently live in Alta Loma with my husband, Jonathan, our son, Trevor, and our dog, Ruger! I’m a real estate agent with a passion for finding new places to explore in the Foothill Communities. When I'm not selling homes, you can find me cheering my son on at his baseball games, exercising, spending time in our local mountains, heading to the lake, cooking, or watching the Dodgers slay the Giants (I was born and raised an Angels fan, but the Dodgers have taken over the household!). I'll never have enough Mexican food and Italian food in my life. I’m looking forward to connecting with you soon! See you around town!
