Beyond the Bleachers: Surviving Summer in the Inland Empire

Summer in the Inland Empire is officially here, and if you've lived here long enough, you know what that means: triple-digit temperatures, packed schedules, and finding creative ways to stay cool while still enjoying everything our community has to offer.

Whether you're spending weekends at the ballfields, afternoons at the park, evenings at outdoor concerts, or cheering on your kids from the sidelines of their favorite activity, a little preparation goes a long way when the temperatures start climbing.

Here are a few of my favorite summer survival essentials:

Shade is Everything

A pop-up canopy, beach umbrella, or portable shade tent can make all the difference during a long day outdoors. In the Inland Empire, finding shade can feel like striking gold.

Bring More Water Than You Think You'll Need

Hydration is key, especially for active kids. I always pack a cooler with plenty of water, frozen sports drinks, and fresh fruit like watermelon or grapes that double as a refreshing snack.

Portable Fans Are Worth Every Penny

Battery-operated fans have become a staple in our family. Whether you're at a baseball game, the park, or a community event, a little breeze can make those hot afternoons much more enjoyable.

Plan a Cool-Down Stop

One of the things I love most about summer in our community is that it doesn't take much to make a great memory. Ice blocking down the hill at Heritage Park. A family movie night under the stars at Victoria Gardens. Music filling the air during a concert at Red Hill Park. A quick stop for ice cream after a long day in the sun. These are the moments our kids will remember long after they've forgotten how hot it was outside.

The truth is, summer in our community isn't always comfortable, but it's filled with opportunities to make memories. Years from now, our kids probably won't remember how hot it was. They'll remember the games, the laughter, the time spent together, and the traditions we created along the way.

So here's to summer adventures, staying cool, and making the most of these long sunny days. If you see me around town, I'll be the one carrying a cooler, chasing shade, and holding an extra-large iced coffee.

Hey Inland Empire, I’m Candice Newman! I’ve had the incredible fortune of being born and raised in this amazing community, and I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else. I currently live in Alta Loma with my husband, Jonathan, our son, Trevor, and our dog, Ruger! I’m a real estate agent with a passion for finding new places to explore in the Foothill Communities. When I'm not selling homes, you can find me cheering my son on at his baseball games, exercising, spending time in our local mountains, heading to the lake, cooking, or watching the Dodgers slay the Giants (I was born and raised an Angels fan, but the Dodgers have taken over the household!). I'll never have enough Mexican food and Italian food in my life. I’m looking forward to connecting with you soon! See you around town! Candice.Newman.Realty@gmail.com | (909) 367-3280 DRE: 01924842
